About Us

Who we are.

Immanuel Baptist Church has been located at Watson Avenue and West 7th Street since 1913. As a church we strive to share the gospel, teach the Bible, and live it out. Come and join us!

The history of Immanuel Baptist Church dates back to the winter of 1882, when a Sunday school was started, called the Fort Street Baptist Mission, under the direction of First Baptist Church of Saint Paul, Minnesota.  The church was organized on June 28, 1886, with ten charter members.  On January 2, 1913, the church was sold and a new location at the corner of Lee and West 7th Street was purchased for $1,000.00.  (Note: Lee is now known as Watson Avenue.)  The church was constructed for $11,000, and is the location of the present, functioning church.

Faithful members have sustained the work of Immanuel Baptist through the years and have seen the importance of being faithful and true to God’s Word.  In the spring of 1998, the church unanimously voted to become an “independent” organization trusting in God’s direction to keep Immanuel Baptist Church “a lighthouse on the corner. ” It has and strives to be a true testament of God’s love, grace and mercy in its outreach to the community.

What we do.

The purpose of Immanuel Baptist Church is to carry out the principles and teachings of the Holy Scriptures; to promote the work of our Lord, Master and Savior, Jesus Christ, in this community, in the state, in the nation and in the world; to evangelize and to provide Christian training and instruction to all we can reach.

What we believe.

We believe in the Holy Scriptures.  It is our law, our creed and our final authority in all matters relating to faith and practice.

We believe in regeneration, salvation by faith in Christ alone, without works, and solely by grace; and in baptism by immersion, in obedience to Christ’s command as a symbol of the death to the old life and the resurrection to the new.

We believe in the separation of church and state, and for the largest measure of civil and religious liberty.

We believe in evangelism, Christian education and worldwide missionary endeavor.
