Our statement of faith

What we believe

The Bible is our sole authority for faith and practice. We believe the Scriptures are God's inspired and infallible word, guiding all that we believe and do as a church.

"Helping Others Take Their Next Step Toward Christ."

Everything below flows from one conviction: that God has spoken in his word, and that his word is sufficient for all of life and faith.

The Word

Scripture shapes what we believe

Our doctrine begins with the conviction that God has spoken clearly and sufficiently in his word.

In summary

A fuller statement of faith

A clear, browsable version of the convictions Immanuel has historically published for visitors and members.

We believe the Old and New Testaments are verbally inspired by God, without error in the original writings, and the only authority for faith, daily life, and final destiny. Key texts include 2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:21, and 1 Peter 1:22-23.
We believe in one eternal God existing as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is Creator, Lord, and worthy of worship. Key texts include Genesis 1:1-2, Matthew 3:16-17, John 1:1-3, 2 Corinthians 13:14, and Hebrews 1:1-2.
We believe Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, and is fully God and fully man. Key texts include Luke 1:1-35, John 14:7-11, John 10:30, and 1 John 5:20.
We believe the Holy Spirit convicts the world, brings new life, baptizes believers into Christ's body, indwells and seals them, and teaches believers to walk in truth. Key texts include John 16:8-13, 1 Corinthians 12:12-14, Romans 8:9, and Ephesians 5:18.
We believe God gives what the church needs for maturity and ministry, and that he hears and answers prayer according to his will. Key texts include 1 Corinthians 12:4-11, 2 Corinthians 12:12, Ephesians 4:7-12, and 1 John 5:14-15.
We believe humanity was created by God in his image, but all people inherit a sinful nature and fall short of God's glory in thought, word, and deed. Key texts include Genesis 1:26-27, Genesis 2:7, Romans 3:23, and Romans 5:12.
We believe the only escape from sin's penalty and power is to receive Jesus Christ by faith. He is the sacrifice and substitute whose blood cleanses from sin. Key texts include John 1:29, Hebrews 9:26, 1 John 1:7, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Luke 13:3, and Ephesians 2:8-9.
We believe Jesus rose bodily from the dead and ascended to heaven, where he intercedes for his people as High Priest. Key texts include John 20:24-29, Hebrews 7:25, Hebrews 9:24, 1 Peter 3:21-22, and 1 Corinthians 15:3-7.
We believe Christ will receive his own and fulfill the promises of his coming. Believers are called to watch, hope, and live faithfully. Key texts include John 14:1-3, 1 Corinthians 15:51-52, Philippians 3:20, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, Titus 2:11-14, and Matthew 24:29-31.
We believe Jesus Christ will return victoriously and reign as King. The day and hour belong to God. Key texts include Acts 1:10-11, Psalm 2, Revelation 19:11-16, Revelation 20:4-6, and Matthew 24:36.
We believe all who receive Christ by faith are born again, have eternal life, and belong to the true body of Christ. Key texts include John 1:11-13, John 3:5-6, John 5:24, John 10:27-29, Ephesians 1:13-14, Ephesians 4:4-6, and Romans 8:38-39.
We believe Scripture teaches believers to be baptized by water, and we practice baptism by immersion as obedience to Christ. Key texts include Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 16:15-16, Romans 6:3-4, Acts 2:41-42, and Acts 8:36-38.
We believe the Lord's Supper is for believers, remembering Christ's death until he comes and calling the church to fellowship, self-examination, confession, and unity. Key texts include Matthew 26:26-29 and 1 Corinthians 10:16-17; 11:24-26.
We believe sanctification includes the believer's perfect standing in Christ, ongoing growth in daily life, and final perfection when we see Christ. Key texts include 2 Corinthians 5:21, Hebrews 10:10-14, 2 Peter 3:18, Philippians 3:10-12, and 1 John 3:2.
We believe people need the gospel of Jesus Christ, and every child of God should seek to make Christ known. Key texts include Romans 1:18-20, Mark 16:15-16, John 3:18, John 14:6, and Acts 4:12.
We believe all who are saved through faith in Christ will be raised to everlasting blessedness with him, and all others to everlasting conscious judgment. Key texts include 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 and Revelation 20:4-6, 11-15.
